Blue Ribbon Clubs
What is "Blue Ribbon Clubs"? A blue ribbon denotes first place or excellence. "Blue Ribbon Clubs" is a program that encourages clubs to be a first place or club of excellence. At the heart of the program is a survey that clubs use to compare themselves to the "IDEAL" Awana club. A certificate is awarded to each club that participates representing how they compared to the "IDEAL" Awana club.
Why "Blue Ribbon Clubs"? Our experience with "TOP 10 Club's" was that the program did not do enough to promote continuous self-improvement within the club and encouraged competition (between clubs) or bragging rights at the conference. Most clubs did not submit a survey because they felt that being one of the top 10 clubs was not within their reach.
The Benefits of "Blue Ribbon Clubs" Blue Ribbon Clubs promotes a purpose-driven club. Goals may be set for each question on the survey encouraging continuous improvement. Goals provide the catalyst for excitement in a club. To receive a certificate at the Awana/Children's Ministry Conference in the fall each year creates a sense of accomplishment within the club. Missionaries may use those clubs who achieve Blue Ribbon Clubs status as clubs that inquiring churches can visit to see a club in action.
